Bit e Expo, le sfide del turismo pugliese

Il turismo in Puglia: un motore di sviluppo economico.

Tourism goes, despite the crisis. Go and speak different languages, without being at Babel. This year, for the first time, in the summer foreign tourists in Italy were in the majority (50.3% with a 4.7% compared to 2012).

Globally the trend of tourism, in the first six months of the year was higher than expected, both in terms of movement (+ 5%) and spending; Southern Europe and the Mediterranean showed a + 6%. Tourism demand world - thanks to new vacationers from China, Russia, India, Brazil - is steadily increasing with more than a billion international arrivals every year, expected to double by 2030. Italy remains one of the preferred destinations, it is rich in history, art, culture, landscapes, sea, food and wine, in addition to the climate and the traditional quality of the welcome.

Tourism could be the engine of recovery can generate the wealth necessary to the real economy of the country, but we must do more and better to conquer larger slices of a rich world movement that is tempting to many countries in Europe and beyond.

The Expo 2015 is a great opportunity to boost tourism in Italy, provided great exposure to become a truly national event and not just a showcase of Milan and some areas of the North. It would be a mistake, in fact, does not fully exploit the specificity of the regional, made of chains cultural, environmental, religious, crafts, food and wine, which are the unique richness of a country can satisfy tastes, feelings, expectations and demands of visitors from every corner of the planet.

The Expo 2015 has long attracted the attention of Apulia as a whole and of important local as Lecce, Taranto, Bari. Nobody wants to stay on the sidelines of the Milanese, and everyone wants to try to conquer their own space to be known and appreciate. But, it is not easy to get visibility only playing games on their own. It is usually the team that wins, and in this case the team can only have the colors of Puglia, then go deployed and exploited its main centers of attraction (Lecce, San Giovanni Rotondo, to name just two).

Same reasoning should be proposed for the next bit to be held in Fieramilano from February 13 to 15, and where the Puglia must be able to create a system to count more, because the 2014 edition of the International Tourism Exchange will turn right in collaboration with Expo 2015 (may already be planned and purchased a preview tour packages), serving as a sort of dress rehearsal for the big event universal. Meanwhile, something is moving, after a summer season from Gargano to Leuca which saw a boom in attendance and controversy: October 20 to 23 the region will be featured with Buy Puglia, an international event during which 140 buyers from 24 countries Europe and beyond will meet 120 tour operators from Puglia. It will be an opportunity to stay on the market, but also to check the impact force of the tourism system Puglia before Bit and Expo.
Puglia, struggling with the difficulties and the crisis of some of its traditional industrial and manufacturing assets, has grown in recent years the incidence of tourism and economic activities linked to it on the GDP, until you pass the building. It is a growth that never stops and starts from a level that in 2006 alone saw the impact on GDP at modest 3.4%. According to an estimate dell'Ipres (Pugliese Institute of Economic and Social Research), the impact of tourism on regional GDP was 7.7% in 2010, 8.1% in 2011 and will approach 10% in 2015 , with further growth possibilities. Also significant is the trend relative to the movement of foreign tourists in 2011 was 17% of the total (+ 3% compared to 2005) and you start to touch 20%, with arrivals who come to share and 600,000 admissions to share two million and a half.

Puglia from the sea and wine, by nature religious traditions, from sports, cultural events, music and entertainment, offering a vast panorama of opportunities to visitors and does disposing of nearly 5,000 facilities, with approximately 73,000 rooms and 250,000 beds, ranging from the hotels of the highest category and luxury resort, offering usage (bed & Breakfast, farms and villas, holiday homes, villages and camping).

The availability of beds reported to be much lower than the demand in the high season. But, this gap can not certainly be bridged through the revival of a devastating policy of overbuilding that would affect the landscape, the main resource of Puglia and Salento. In fact, as is clear from a social sensitivity and civil increasingly widespread, the only feasible way is the one that focuses on the enhancement of what already exists, especially in the hinterland, to create a popular hotel, ecologically sustainable and able to recall a quality tourism - the hit and run is not much - that brings resources and impact positively on the lives of the territory.

A system to be stronger and follow the North Star of environmental protection. You can not give more if you do not want to burn the economic wealth that tourism can ensure over time, on the altar of short-sighted convenience of a day.
