Matera, the City of Stones, with its fascinating caves and dwellings, almost looks frozen in time. The historical centre known as «il Piano», an elevated area with an amazing view over the «Sassi», represents the first settlements beyond the Sassi, therefore the ‘modern’ side of Matera with a beautiful architecture starting from the XVII century.
