Conversano, l'antica Norba"

Conversano
Of ancient origin Norba see me up on his way over time since the Iron Age, the site where stationed populations such as Peuceti and Japigi.
Accompanied by rich archaeological traces, thanks to its favorable geographical location, Norba becomes part of the Roman Empire and conceded the influence and thus the decline at the hands of the barbarian invasions. Reborn on the ruins of Norba, around the fifth century, a new township called: Cupersanem house, and thanks to the descent of the Normans, around the eleventh century, Geoffrey of Altavilla called it comes Cupersani.
Thus began the sequence of accounts in the Aragonese Conversano (19 in four centuries), a distinction between heroism and love affairs, until reaching Girolamo II of Aragon, more commonly known as "Guercio of Puglia", blessing of the county . Dotted with many legends, the "Guercio", held in "check" the county for 40 years.
Reborn fascist oppression, Conversano, is today a charming town of his strong sense of civic duty and above all cultural, making it a destination for studies, rich in art and history.
The old town is a succession of streets from the white chianche, surrounded by ancient buildings, stone, with characteristic wrought iron balconies, and its main center is certainly the Castello Acquaviva d'Aragona, located at the highest point of the city . Its nucleus is the main tower, 25 meters high, built by Goffredo Altavilla the Norman in 1100 and the entry coeval. At present, the manor has a trapezoidal shape, with the four corners occupied by four towers.
Inside the castle are the premises occupied by the Art Gallery, which houses the 10 beautiful paintings of Paul Finoglio inspired Gerusalemme Liberata. In the Pinacoteca are based Section dedicated to the painter Francesco Netti, impressionist painter action Conversano Section of Historical Clothing and the Conference Room.

Another beauty of the old town is the Cathedral of Conversano, built in the eleventh century and dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. Town located on the acropolis, well within the ancient megalithic walls, and presents its four sides completely isolated from the surrounding buildings. The building in its current configuration is presented as a body from the typical Apulian Romanesque, from which, however, is different for the originality of Gothic and Byzantine reminiscences detectable in interesting sculptural decorations. Even today you can see the megalithic walls, which enclosed the ancient Norba, important work of fortification around the hill where stood the city.
Another notable building is the territory Conversano Dimora di Caccia Marchione Castle, built in 1730. Located 7km on the provincial Conversano-Putignano, served as a residence for occasional Acquaviva d'Aragona, counts of Conversano, during hunting trips. In the eighteenth century, the building was surrounded by a thick oak forest now replaced by almond and cherry trees. The structure has a rectangular, surrounded by four cylindrical towers at the four corners and consists of a ground floor, one floor and an upper floor.

Of particular beauty is the grand staircase of access to interior rooms.

For nature lovers, a must are the Lakes sites at the Tower of Castiglione, with their woods, the ancient trees of the oasis protected WWF and Lake Castiglione hosting the typical local amphibians called "frogs" and the toad in endangered "emerald". Also worth a visit Lake Sassano site near the town.
