The city of Andria, also known as the largest rural municipality in southern Italy, is closely linked to the figure of Frederick II and its Cathedral which, for proven loyalty, was elected as his favorite residence. On a medieval scene almost cinematic, is Castel del Monte (open to the public from 10.00 to 18.30 every day including Saturday and Sunday), the most famous monument of the era of Frederick the Murgia.
The city of Andria is not just history to culture, but it is also full of meeting places favored by young people, where music, beer and delicious pizzas are the ingredients for a happy relaxed evening out from the stresses of everyday life.
Andria is famous for its rare kitchen, with its smells, its flavors, with its recipes, which tells the story of our beloved land and of our origins. A seemingly barren soil, but that actually makes the model robust and rough farmer's hand, returns the unfailing care dedicated to her with precious and succulent fruits: olives. In fact, there is no place in the world that has so many olive trees as this land.
The olive harvest starts in late autumn. It yields a fragrant oil of very low acidity, golden yellow in color with bright reflections emerald.
The beautiful Castel del Monte was built by Frederick II of Swabia and had to be almost completed in 1240, as evidenced by a letter written by the emperor himself, in which he ordered to proceed without delay to the creation of the castle. Built on the ruins of an earlier fortress before Lombard and then Norman, Castel del Monte was probably not a fortress, but maybe a hunting residence of the emperor. 

Great importance on the historical scenario of Andria is also the Cathedral, a medieval crypt and a thousand years, or even the superb Palazzo Ducale, the church of San Domenico, the Porta Sant 'Andrea and the church of St. Augustine.
