Itinerari: Barletta, Andria, Trani

Leaving Palazzo Della Marra, here now the castle built by the Normans in the second half of the twelfth century: a perfect and elegant war machine, lapped by the sea, recently transformed into a cultural center of excellence. Here, indeed, is the Museo Civico and in the charming rooms of the manor (long underground walkways, casemates acoustically disturbing, reception rooms) are often organized exhibitions of contemporary art. A short walk from the Castle you visit the Cathedral, built in white stone that tells with its mix of architectural styles and the long history of the city. Do not miss, then, the Church of the Greeks, a true jewel in the heart of the old town: its iconostasis shimmering gold alone is worth the visit.

A few kilometers from the coastal road and you get to Trani: the view of the cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino, one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture, breathtaking. Inside, under the upper basilica, are the remains of crypts, chapels underground, of temples dating back to the origins of the history of Christianity in Puglia. Almost opposite the Cathedral, another castle: the most important and more readable castles Frederick (or facts built by Frederick II). This also built in white stone of Trani, was a fortress open sea but inside there were halls and rooms of representation where the emperor received his dignitaries and organized banquets and parties.
In the waters of the harbor, then reflects the Templar Church where, say the medieval chroniclers, left the first Crusaders. And a few steps here the Giudecca, the old Jewish quarter where the Synagogue Scolanova survives.
