Gallipoli is a town of about 20,000 inhabitants of Salento, located on the Ionian Sea. Every summer the 20 km of sandy coastline, also including the town of Green Bay, Punta Pizzo, Rivabella and Lido Shells, are a popular destination for holidays in Puglia: indeed Gallipoli is the ideal destination for families, thanks to the beaches equipped, both for young people, thanks to the beautiful coves and to the many nightclubs on the coast, which already begin to come alive in the afternoon to close at dawn.
The Old Town is located on a small island connected to the mainland by a seventeenth-century bridge, while the village is the new part of the city, home to all commercial activities.
The historic center of the town is an intricate labyrinth of winding streets, courts, churches and historic buildings. Characteristic of the buildings of Gallipoli is to be made in the Baroque style, the "Lecce Baroque", so that the city has been included on the Tentative Lists of UNESCO, pending a possible recognition as a World Heritage Site.
Of great importance are also the "Greek Fountain", believed to have been the oldest fountain in Italy, built around the second century. A.C.; the Angevin Castle, built on the sea; the city walls and the four coastal towers along the coast of the city. For informations info@pugliaetmores.it
