La Puglia, tra "lame" e Masserie

A spasso intorno alla città di Fasano, tra colline coperte di ulivi millenari, il fascino delle civiltà rupestri e le tipiche fattorie fortificate

The air is dry and crisp, moved by a breeze that smells of the sea; the colors are bright, the blue of the sky to turquoise sea, ocher of the earth to the silvery green olive trees: we are in Fasano, in Puglia, in the area that comes from Murgia to the Adriatic. A region of hills that slope down to the coastal plain, surrounded by a beautiful landscape and where you breathe a special charm: here the sea is beautiful, between flat rocks and small beaches, history and traditions are alive and palpable, evidenced by farms scattered a bit 'everywhere, from archaeological sites, the so-called "lame" or hollows in the ground created by ancient rivers and once inhabited by major population centers. The landscape is marked by monumental plants, like the hundreds of ancient olive trees, and the friendly nature of the people is shown in a thousand traditions that emerge in times of celebration and joy of coming to the table, including a generous flavors and superfine gastronomy.
At the center of this area, about halfway between Bari and Brindisi, between the hills and the sea, lies the city of Fasano, a charming medieval center that retains its historic center all the charm of the ancient villages of Puglia, with white houses, cobbled streets of polished stone, arches, alleys and squares. After various invasions and raids, in the fourteenth century Fasano became feud of the Knights of Malta, but the heyday of the city seat in 1678, when after a heroic resistance, the Fasano fail to reject the Saracens. The event is commemorated every year in the months of June, with the great feast of Scamiciata, between historical parades, lights, dancing and singing in the streets, where the joy and intense participation of Fasano shows how alive the sense of belonging and historical identity of all the townspeople. In addition to stroll the charming streets of downtown, is worth visiting the Museum of the Casa Fasano (located in the Old Market Square), where they are faithfully reconstructed, in one of the oldest buildings in the town, built in tuff, some typical environments and original housing premises of the sixteenth century. Also to see the beautiful church of San Giovanni.

The hills are dotted with farms Fasano, old farmhouses from the classic fortified structure that helped to resist the incursion of robbers and in particular of the Turks. Much of this ancient and austere buildings has been restored and converted tourist hospitality. Here you can also stay in a very luxurious.
Other farms have chosen to retain their agricultural character, and devote themselves entirely to the good flavors: for great places to sample the local oil, produced by ancient olive trees, beautiful and imposing as vegetable carvings, delicious cheeses and tomatoes characteristic of the queen, small and greedy.
