Peschici is part of the Gargano National Park and the Mountain Community of Gargano. It is situated on a cliff overlooking the sea. Its origins are slaves, in fact in the past the captain of the Slavs, Sueripolo, after driving the Saracens obtained from the emperor two colonies, Vico and Peschici. Today it is a popular beach resort and has been repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag by the Foundation for Environmental Education. Peschici is located on the northern coast of Gargano between the Bay Calenella (Vico del Gargano) to the west and the Bay of Manaccore (Vieste) to the east. The coast of Peschici is characterized by sandy beaches with extremely fine and sometimes mixed with gravel.

 

 

What to visit?

In the heart of Fish is the castle, which borders the oldest part of the modern city. The visit to the old town you can admire beautiful landscapes. Driving along the coastal stretch that goes from Peschici to Vieste you can see the famous trebuchets, wooden structures made of stakes driven into the rocks and ropes that hold a large net lowered into the sea, the traditional system of fishing still used by peschiciani.

Guests can visit the Benedictine complex of Santa Maria Calena and the shrine of Our Lady of Loreto, in the tradition built by a group of fishermen who escaped to a nufragio the intercession of Our Lady. In his honor, every second Monday after Easter, the residents go to the sanctuary to eat sweets in the shape of Easter baskets with boiled eggs. Worth seeing is also the church's patron saint, St. Elias, who would defend the city from an invasion of locusts.
