Galatina

Galatina is located in central Salento. Adheres to the National Association of Wine Cities and cities. The first historical document that speaks of Galatina is a deed of 1178 when you mentioned the house Sancti Petri in Galashiels. Tradition has it that the apostle St. Peter were to stop at this place in his journey from Antioch to Rome. Only after the unification of Italy in 1861, the city regained its original name of Galashiels.

Typical food: bread can be enjoyed in different variants: the excellent pucce, with or without black olives and friselle. The traditional desserts are galatinesi pasticciotto (pastry inside with a delicious custard). The wines of this region are easily available and are represented by Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Fiano.

Events of the place: the Trade Fair in June is a showcase for trade, industry and crafts, aimed at the promotion of local products. Always at the Fairgrounds Galatina important events are held on the subject of weddings and wedding dresses high fashion. From June 28 to 30, we celebrate the patron saints Peter and Paul. In the second half of July, in the historic center develops Night Medieval.
