Santa Maria di Leuca is a popular tourist destination, and is the town to the south of the province. Since October 2006, the territory of Santa Maria di Leuca is part of the Park Costa Otranto - Santa Maria di Leuca. It is a place famous for the nineteenth-century villas, built according to different styles for the most part by architects Ruggeri and Rossi. Because of the bombings of World War II some villas appear transformed than in the past.
What to see: Santa Maria di Leuca is a land full of caves, such as you can remember: Devil's Cave located on Punta Ristola. It was discovered in 1871 after excavations effettuatu by Ulderico Botti who discovered remains of bones, weapons and tools, which suggest a cave attendance since Neolithic times. These finds are now preserved in the museums of Lecce and Maglie. Its name comes from an old popular superstition, which attributed to the presence of the Devils lugubrious and mighty rumble that could be heard in the cave, which is accessible by land through an opening that is located on its back ..

 
Santa Maria di Leuca is famous for its shrine of the same name built between 1720 and 1755 by Monsignor Giovanni Giannelli. The interior of the sanctuary is a single nave with six side altars. Sull 'altar is placed the painting of the Madonna and Child said "Madonna de finibus terrae", by Jacopo Palma the Younger.

FESTIVAL OF SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA

On August 15 of each year we celebrate Our Lady of Santa Maria di Leuca. The statue of the Madonna is carried in procession around the village until you get to the port. Here is embarked on a fishing trawler and comes near the marina of San Gregorio. At the end of the procession the statue back to Leuca and is drawn back into the Sanctuary. The festival ends with a fireworks show. The devotion to Our Lady of Leuca is linked to an incident in the sixteenth century. It is said that a terrible storm put in danger the fishing boats and the same Leuca. Through the intercession of Our Lady of the fishermen and residents of Leuca got the end of the storm, and the salvation of the boats.
