Mola di Bari is located along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. Its fishing port is the most important of Puglia. The city could be divided into several historical areas: to the north the medieval part where you can see the Mother Church and the other side lies the new town of Murat age that gives the country the appearance of a modern town. Do not miss palaces, streets and squares lined with trees.

His story: probably of Roman origin as remains have been found of a paving moisaico of a villa of the imperial age placed on the coast north of the town. These elements do not seem sufficient to testify to the existence of a town.

What to see: the Mother Church, dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari is located inside the old town not far from the sea. Built in the late thirteenth century. The building is now a fine example of Renaissance architecture Adriatic, although the expansion of the Baroque era have altered the appearance of some of the apse and side chapels. Recent renovations have made it possible to enhance the rose window and the two portals.

The Palazzo Roberti-Alberotanza, built between 1760 and 1770 by Giambattista Roberti. The facade, in the late Baroque style, is marked by three theories of windows. At the center, the lodge overlooks the majestic noble Neapolitan style of door that gives access to a large courtyard, on which engages the outer staircase leading to the upper floors and the porch. In the mid-twentieth century becomes municipal assets. The interior, largely closed to the public, preserve valuable painting decorations. Apart from the names of the families who owned it, the building is popularly known as the "palace of the Hundred Rooms" by impressiveness that sets it apart.

 

Events of the place: Carrettone Carnival: proposed for the first time in the thirties of the twentieth century, was an itinerant farm wagon on which some masked characters dramatized scenes satirical motteggiavano most illustrious personalities and different social groups in the country.

Holy Week rites: the evening of Good Friday procession is held important: that of the Holy Wood, which is carried in the exposition of the relic of the Cross of Jesus Christ kept in the mother church from 1710; The procession ends with the blessing of the faithful gathered in the large Piazza XX Settembre.
